Taiwan AC LED makers attempting to tap global market through CIE standards proposal
Taiwan-based LED makers, including Forward Electronics, Everlight Electronics and Tyntek, plan to propose draft measurement standards for AC LED devices to the CIE (International Commission on Illumination) in an attempt to tap the global market for AC LED lighting products, according to industry sources.
The sources estimate that the global AC LED market will reach NT$60 billion (US$1.83 billion) in 2015.
Epistar is optimistic about the 2-4W nightlight and candlelight market for AC LED, the sources noted, adding that Epistar expects to start shipping AC LED chips in June.
Epistar explained that its 1W LED chip will have 80lm/W luminous efficiency when adopted for DC LED components, and 65lm/W for AC LED components. However, the luminous efficiency of DC LED modules will drop to 56-68lm/W, while AC LED modules' luminous efficiency can remain at 65lm/W, the company said.
