European Powder Metallurgy Associations (EPMA) annual Euro PM Congress & Exhibition, which this year is taking place in Bilbao, Spain, has attracted a record number of abstracts since the abstract submission deadline passed at the end of January.
Euro PM2018 Congress has recorded over 350 abstracts provided by the Powder Metallurgy community, an increase of 20% compared to previous years Euro PM Events. The number of submitted abstracts, representing some 42 countries, will make for a bumper Technical Programme and help to showcase how the different areas of powder metallurgy – Additive Manufacturing/Hard Materials/Hot Isostatic Pressing/Metal Injection Moulding and conventional Press & Sinter are all creating advantage for the components and processes they are involved with.
This year’s Euro PM2018 Congress & Exhibition will for the first time take place against the industrial port back drop of Spain’s northern city Bilbao. Bilbao is the largest city in the province of Biscay in the Basque Country and the 10 th largest city in Spain, making it one of the most populous areas in northern Spain and located to the south of the Bay of Biscay. The port of Bilbao is a first-class commercial port and is among the top five in Spain. Over 200 regular maritime services link Bilbao with 500 ports worldwide. In recent year’s cargo movements from the port amounted to 31.6 million tonnes, with northern countries being the main markets and the port processing over 70,000 passengers annually. Iron is the main and most abundant raw material found in Biscay and has been mined for over 500 years. The area around Bilbao is also well known for the quality of minerals that can be mined, which are exported all over Europe.
The Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC) will host Euro PM2018 Congress & Exhibition, 14-18 October 2018, in its modern and airy congress centre. The technical sessions will take place in the BEC Tower, and at 98m high, one of the tallest buildings in Bilbao and will offer delegates a great view of the surrounding region. The BEC Tower is connected to the exhibition pavilions, via a series of elevators and escalators making for a short walk to the Euro PM Industry exhibition area.
This year’s Euro PM Exhibition has already attracted all areas of the PM industry from raw material suppliers, through to equipment manufactures and analysis companies. Over 75% of the exhibition space has already been reserved, making it one of the largest dedicated powder metal industry exhibitions in Europe in 2018! Reservations are still being accepted and bookings can be made online, subject to availability.
